What is a LEI code?

The Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) is a global 20-character alphanumeric number for identifying legal entities. The LEI code is an identification number for legal entities wishing to participate in international financial transactions. The LEI code helps to make legal entities easily identifiable and provides key information for financial transactions.  

The code is made up of four elements:

• Character 1-4: Identifies which LOU has issued the code.
• Characters 5-6: Reserved for future functionality.
• Character 7-18: Identifies the individual legal entity.
• Characters 19-20: Two control digits.

How do I make sure, that Leicode.com is a validated agent?

We are a Registration Agent (LEI Kode ApS, LEI number 894500N6DS94AVMR9R44) that helps customers obtain LEI codes from authorized LOUs. We cooperate with the GLEIF-certified LOU RapidLEI (Ubisecure Oy), (LEI number 529900T8BM49AURSDO55).

Who manages the LEI system?
The LEI code system is managed centrally by the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF). GLEIF is a supranational non-profit organization headquartered in Basel, Switzerland. GLEIF´s mission is to support implementing and using LEI codes, thereby improving transparency in the global financial business world. You can read more about GLEIF on their website.

What is an LOU?

LOUs or Local Operating Units are LEI-issuers accredited by GLEIF. LOUs are mandated to create, modify, renew and transfer LEI codes. LOUs work closely with registration agents, who help organisations apply for LEI codes. You can read more about LOUs here.

How much does an LEI code cost?

All prices are listed on our website under "Prices". Prices can vary from region to region based on local rules. Our LEI price consists of the registration cost for the chosen period and the GLEIF fee.

 

How can I pay for the LEI?
You can pay for the LEI by credit/debit card. You can also pay by bank transfer if you do not have a credit/debit card. Transfer details are stated on the invoice, which you will receive after you have sent the application. We will start the application once we have registered payment for the application.

Do you issue electronic invoice (EAN)?
Yes we are issuing an EAN invoice to public authorities or whoever needs it. Please email us @ info@leicode.com for this.

How long does it take to get an LEI code? 
LEI issuance can take up to 24 hours to complete. LEI issuance can take longer if your company is not registered in the official company registry or have ‘Level 2’ data. Transfer/renewal applications can take up to 7 days to complete.

 

What information do I need to give to get an LEI code?
To apply for the LEI, you must provide the company name, company number or Registration ID, applicant name and contact details and company address. In most cases, we can confirm the company data from the official business registry. If the entity is not registered in the official business registry, we will ask you to provide some form of official documentation from where the entity data could be confirmed.

 

We do not have a company number. Can we still get an LEI code?
Yes, you can get an LEI even when you do not have a company number. You can enter N/A instead of the company number in the application, and we will contact you about the supporting documents if needed.

 

I need LEI code for multiple companies. Can bulk registration be made?
Yes, you can apply LEI code for multiple companies. Please email us @ info@leicode.com, and we will find a suitable solution.

 

Can I renew an existing LEI code with you?
Yes, we can renew your existing LEI code. If your LEI is managed by a different service provider, we will first need to transfer your LEI under our management before we can renew it. The transfer and renewal application can be submitted at once. We will take care of the whole process. Just submit the renewal application and kindly sign a Power of Attorney. We need the signed Power of Attorney to inform your current service provider that you want to transfer the LEI under our management. Please note that renewals/transfers can take up to 7 days.

Can I use the LEI code right after the issuance?
Banks and investment service providers verify the validity of LEI numbers from the GLEIF database. As GLEIF performs database updates once per day, an LEI code issued to you will be listed in the database on the following day from 14.00 CEST. For example, if your Legal Entity Identifier was issued today, it will be listed in the global database tomorrow from 14.00 (CEST).
